The Parent Empowerment Movement is all about plate management. We help parents take unrealistic and discouraging things off their plate, so they finally have room for the good stuff—what truly matters to them and their families.
Our approach blends energy work, mindset resets, group coaching, self-advocacy, child development, and our 30+ years of teaching experience.
We empower parents to build a new set of expectations for themselves, their families, and the world around them—so their plates reflect their real values, not just society’s demands.
Jenny Murtagh and Felicia Severhill, Co-Founders of The Parent Empowerment Movement.
Felicia and Jenny met in college as orientation counselors at Cal Poly Humboldt. They both graduated with B. A. degrees in Child Development, specializing in Early Childhood Education. We launched careers teaching in preschool and toddler classrooms, soon growing into roles including lead teacher, coach, director, and district manager for various programs. Throughout it all our roots in peer counseling stuck with us, and as we joined the ranks of parents ourselves, our pleasure in supporting parents from our own life learning grew even more. Now with each of us having a preschooler of our own, we've had plenty of opportunities to put our practices of classroom management, mentorship, and in the moment responsiveness to the test.
Felicia and her family currently live in Southern California, near Temecula. After spending 15 years in Northern California, her love and connection with nature has infiltrated her life. Spending time outside alone, with her family, and with the many children she has taught really showcased how calming, inspiring and connecting nature is. This continues to ring true in her life as getting outside for a walk, adventure, or just to take a deep breath is her number one tool as a parent!

Jenny lives farther north close to Seattle, Washington. Her favorite passion to share with her preschooler is making art, and together they both paint anything and everything! She grew up in an artsy DIY family and took art classes all throughout her education. That taught her early on that “being artistic” isn’t just for people with natural talent, it’s something anyone can practice and learn - and like anything else, getting the right guidance, tools, and encouragement can be the make-or-breaker. This philosophy impacts her teaching tremendously, and you’ll likely hear her respond to someone’s feelings of defeat with, “You can, you just haven’t yet.”
